Grant Training Opportunities

CET (Consultation, Education and Training)
EMU CORR has received 19 CET grants since 1995. The grants focus on supporting small-to-medium sized Michigan-based businesses in health and safety education and training.

Free Trenching and Excavation Training
At a national level, there was a dramatic increase in the number of fatalities from 2002 (33) and 2003 (53) in trenching and excavation. The trend continues with three cave-in fatalities reported in Michigan for 2010. Failure to dig excavation sidewalls to the angle of repose specified in MIOSHA Part 9 rules was the seventh most frequently cited serious violation of the MIOSHA Construction Safety Standards for fiscal year 2010. You can avoid these incidents with appropriate training.

Qualified Person Level (8 hours)
This program provides you with an overview of MIOSHA standards, best practices and hazard recognition for trenching and excavation worksites. It covers the qualifications for a qualified person, including performing field tests, importance of compliance and inspections, limitation of trenching shields and sloping and shoring requirements.

Who Should Attend
Workers, supervisors and equipment operators whose health and safety is threatened by the possibility of serious injury or death due to incidents involving trenching and excavation work.
